Continued synergies between GoCo Health Innovation City and AstraZeneca’s BioVenture Hub as Medtech company Intelligent Implants now joins the crowd of innovative health-related businesses that will soon move into the signature building of GoCo Health Innovation City.
With just over six months to go until the opening of GoCo House, the list of health innovation companies signing up to maximise opportunities to meet, interact and collaborate is filling up fast. One of these companies is Intelligent Implants, which has chosen GoCo House to accommodate its Swedish subsidiary and to continue its exciting growth journey developing smart systems for orthopedic implants.
- GoCo is such an exciting initiative. We have to be a part of it, says John Zellmer, co-founder and COO of Intelligent Implants.
Intelligent Implants was founded in Ireland in 2014 and started its business in Sweden in 2018. The company has been part of AstraZeneca’s BioVentureHub since 2019, from where the multidisciplinary team has been researching and developing electrotherapeutic orthopaedic devices that can be used to stimulate, control and remotely monitor bone growth, for example, after joint fusion or bone fracture surgery. During their time in the BioVentureHub, the Intelligent Implants team has announced new funding and received Breakthrough Device Designation by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- We have significantly benefited from and enjoyed our time in the BioVentureHub. It has been an ideal environment for us to develop our SmartFuse lumbar spinal fusion system at the intersection of digital medicine and orthopedics. Now, as we expand our business and ramp up efforts to bring our solutions to patients and surgeons, it’s super convenient for us to move next door into GoCo House and continue to be an active part of the exciting health innovation ecosystem that is growing up in and around AstraZeneca. This in itself provides incredible value, says John Zellmer
To meet diverse business needs, GoCo House will consist of both co-working and permanent offices in varying sizes adapted for everything from one person companies to large global companies. In addition, the office building will offer a lounge, bar, restaurant and café areas, as well as creative meeting and conference environments. The common denominator for the companies on site will be a connection to life science and/or health innovation.
- This catalyses collaboration opportunities centered around unlocking new solutions to global health challenges, says Jonas Obert, business developer at GoCo Health Innovation City.
- We operate in a network economy and we strongly believe in the power of meeting to share knowledge and experiences. This forms the basis for the construction of GoCo House. The entire house, indeed the entire GoCo Health Innovation City district, is being planned and shaped to create opportunities for collaboration. We are very happy to welcome Intelligent Implants, a company that is at the forefront of innovative orthopedic solutions. It will be very exciting to follow and be part of their continued growth journey moving forward, concludes Jonas Obert.
